Sci Friday # 96: Visual Inspiration
Images that inspired me
This week’s photo is the last festival photo for now.
Festivals in Japan are celebrated all throughout the year, so there were lots of different food and events being celebrated.
What?
The Shogatsu Festival took place in January throughout the Japan. Some of the most famous parts of Shogatsu, literally 1st month or January, was the pounding of the rice cakes which I never managed to get a photo of.
But I did get a photo of a volunteer making sushi rolls at the festival in Misawa.
Why?
I love sushi, and I’ve eaten it all around the world, Misawa, Tokyo, Okinawa, Anchorage, Japantown in San Francisco, Key West, Athens, and Madrid. Madrid had awesome sushi and even green tea ice cream that was essentially vanilla ice cream with green tea powder sprinkled on top.
Besides enjoying the food, I love that the festival had people volunteering to make the food because they enjoy the heck out of sharing their culture with us foreigners.
Frankly, of all the places I’ve lived in Japan, the folks in Misawa were the kindest, most considerate.
Readers questions: Where have you traveled? What did you like about it? What food from that place did you enjoy?
Hope all y’all had a great week. Enjoy the weekend. 👋
