I’m still fighting that cold as I write this, so I’m going to share some music I enjoy when I’m feeling tired, drowsy, or sick. I’m also sending out a request for input from readers on some research I’m doing.
But first the music.
I grew up enjoying the Charlie Brown Christmas cartoon because I loved reading the newspaper comic strip, but Vince Guaraldi’s music really made the cartoon bounce along.
The man was a major talent.
You know I couldn’t leave the AI-dustbunnies out after last week. It came out pretty good, but the AI seems to think that cats should wear tuxedoes. 🤦♂️
Writing-wise, I’m still working on my alt-history short stories set during the time of the American War for Independence, and I’m needing some multimedia inspiration to get a feel for the times: movies, tv shows, cartoons, and songs.
I’ve got a ton of written reference material, some of it gathered back when I was in junior high. 🙂
Question: What tv shows, movies, cartoons, or songs did you enjoy that were set in that time period?
Supplemental question: What tv shows, movies, cartoons, or songs about the time period did you not like? Cracked you up?
If you have a website about the subject, or another other thing besides books, that you want to share, toss them my way, too.
Thanks. 🫡
Hopefully next Monday, I’ll be out from under this bug. All y’all stay healthy! 👋
For novels, I'd say the Sharpe series, by Bernard Cornwell. They're set about 25 years later and on another continent, but they give you a good idea of how musket armed combat was supposed to work, and where the European military mind was at the time. "The Fort, a novel of the Revolutionary War," by the same author is also good. It is, however, a one-off rather than a big series.
Musically: I must not have had enough coffee, yet. All I'm coming up with are "the Grand Old Duke of York" and "do your ears hang low."
These two stick with me. This is a recent read.

This was a 1957 Disney TV movie.

The Sharpe Series is equally good in print or video.
